At Roy's Redwoods Open Space Preserve, we reimagined the trail system to protect one of Marin County's most extraordinary old-growth redwood groves, guiding visitors through it with a clear, lightly structured network of loop trails, boardwalks, adventure play, and restored forest paths that reads intuitively across the landscape.
Our design carefully limited impacts to sensitive root systems, riparian soils, and understory habitat while preserving the sense of immersion, discovery, and quiet that makes the grove so powerful. Through subtle grading, elevated crossings, and a thoughtful sequence of entry and movement, we shaped a visitor experience that feels natural and unforced, allowing the forest to remain the central presence while supporting long-term ecological resilience.
