Máyyan 'Ooyákma – Coyote Ridge Open Space Preserve

Client: Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority

Location: Coyote Valley, California

Year Completed: 2024

At Máyyan 'Ooyákma – Coyote Ridge Open Space Preserve, RDG designed a thoughtfully integrated system of trails, staging areas, shade structures, and interpretive features that introduces visitors to one of the South Bay's most ecologically and culturally significant ridgelines. The design organizes arrival through a clear and intuitive trailhead, extends into a sustainable trail network that carefully manages access across sensitive serpentine grasslands and rare habitats, and opens onto expansive views of the Santa Clara Valley. Dispersed shade structures provide comfort in the open landscape, and interpretive elements communicate the preserve's unique ecology, geology, and cultural history, creating a cohesive access framework that balances habitat protection, visitor experience, and long-term stewardship of the ridgeline.
